The Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at the Medical University of South Carolina is recruiting a Research Associate to join our Hearing Research Program. The
Research Associate will contribute to the collection, maintenance, and analysis of data for
research projects in our Program that include adult human subjects of all ages. Other primary
responsibilities include recruitment and scheduling of research participants for these
Participant Recruitment, Data Collection/Analysis, Laboratory Tasks:
Determines participants’ eligibility for inclusion in an experiment.
Operates, calibrates, and maintains basic laboratory equipment.
Conducts basic audiological testing, cognitive screening tasks, and administers self-
Instructs study participants and runs protocols for experimental tasks (including tasks of
basic auditory perception and speech recognition).
Maintains confidentiality of study participants and their research results. Sets up and
manages experimental data spreadsheets and displays results.
Maintains notebooks of laboratory protocols and procedures
Required and Preferred Skills:
Excellent oral and written communication skills, organizational skills, and problem-
Proficient with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, and Powerpoint)
Bachelor’s degree (minimum) in audiology, speech-language pathology, speech and
hearing sciences, psychology, engineering, or other related fields. Experience
conducting research with older adults without or with hearing loss is especially welcome.
